On June 15th, Public Policy Polling announced that Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle’s approval rating has fallen to just 34%. This is just 1% higher than California Governor Gray Davis received in February 2003, just a few weeks before the recall effort launched that threw Davis out of office.

Among independents, Doyle has a 69% disapproval rating in Wisconsin, 1% worse than California Governor Gray Davis had in February 2003.

While many argue that Wisconsinites should wait almost two years for a new governor because the elections will be too close together, the California recall began less than four months after the November 2002 statewide gubernatorial election.

“We cannot afford to wait almost two years to replace Jim Doyle. For the man who said ‘We should notwenot — and I will not — must raise taxes, we must hold him accountable today!” said Vince Schmuki, president of Wisconsinites Interests Now, leaders of the RecallDoyle.com effort.

“We have recognized early on in the budget process that special interests only, not Wisconsinites’ interests are being represented. Therefore, WIN, Wisconsinites’ Interests Now, in conjunction with CRG, Citizens For Responsible Government, will shortly begin the finalization of the recall petition to be presented to the thousands of volunteers who have rushed to sign up in the last several weeks to help with the recall on Gov. Jim Doyle through our website WWW.RECALLDOYLE.COM

“We will be following the template of the citizens’ grassroots effort that successfully recalled then California Gov. Gray Davis, Jr., in Oct 2003. The citizens recall team fully expects to have the recall petition drive for serious breach of trust, completed within the 60 day time frame as allotted by law. We, the taxpaying citizenry, as then, in California, have operated in a virtual media blackout. This recall will be only third time in U.S. history that a seated Governor will have been removed from office. We fully expect the news media to begin to recognize this historical nature of this groundbreaking  accomplishment and to begin reporting on it some time before the completion of the recall drive and the full removal of Jim Doyle before year’s end.”

Over 4,200 residents from 71 of 72 counties have signed up to help at RecallDoyle.com. Rallies and organizational meetings have been held in Green Bay, Chilton, Manitowoc, Oshkosh, Richfield, Menomonee Falls, and Milwaukee; and events are currently scheduled in Appleton, Fort Atkinson, Franklin, La Crosse, and Waukesha. Wisconsinites can join the Doyle Recall by logging on to www.recalldoyle.com, or calling 414-801-0800.

About Wisconsinites Interests Now:

Wisconsinites Interests Now (WIN) is a consortium of citizens from Wisconsin that periodically meets across the state.  They contacted CRG with the idea of a gubernatorial recall.  CRG has been working with WIN to launch a recall of Governor Jim Doyle.

About Citizens for Responsible Government:

CRG Network (and CRG Milwaukee previously) launched the recall of Milwaukee County Executive Tom Ament in 2002.  Since that initial event, CRG Network has been primarily engaged in educating grassroots groups in how to deal with unresponsive government agencies and officials.  Every recall and action since then has been accomplished by other groups and affiliates who have come to CRG Network for educational assistance. CRG is currently assisting with the recall of State Senator Jim Sullivan (5th Senate District).
