Followup on DPI race

Filed under: Campaign Finance, DPI Superintendent, Randy Koschnick - Supreme Court — randallmelchert @ 8:41 pm

Was going to do an update, but it went long….

From the Green Bay Gazette:

MADISON — A new report says Wisconsin Supreme Court candidates Shirley Abrahamson and Randy Koschnick spent $1.26 million through March.

The Wisconsin Democracy Campaign found Abrahamson spent $1.2 million through March 23. Koschnick spent $62,932. Abrahamson, the court’s incumbent chief justice, defeated the Jefferson County judge in the April 7 election

They spent $1.26 million, yeah Shirley spent the $1.2 million, Randy spent the $0.06 :-) . So Randy got outspent 20:1…. wow…

And we can’t blame this reporting on the Gazette, it comes almost word for word from the WisDC press release as John Faust points out at Wigderson’s

But in a more self-interested point of view, WisDC’s PR does give me a favorable mention although they might have been attempting to include me as a “smear group”:

One individual, Randy Melchert, a communications consultant and former Republican Assembly candidate from Brookfield, spent $306 on signs to support Fernandez and Abrahamson’s challenger, Jefferson County Circuit Judge Randy Koschnick.

However, it appears that their math skills are a bit challenged:

Erstwhile Republican primary candidate and broadcaster Randall Melchert reported spending $306 in support of the Fernandez and Koshchnick candidacies.

Office Candidate Position Candidate
Amount
Office
Amount
Supreme Court Abrahamson, Shirley S. Con $0 $153.00
Koschnick, Randy R. Pro $153.00
Public Instruction Evers, Tony Con 0 $153.00
Fernandez, Rose Pro $153.00
PAC Total $360.00

Although in textual criticism we would call that a transposition..

Also – AFP supported Rose with a radio buy but not Randy to clarify my last post…

Well…

I was the sole independent expenditure to support Koschnick and Fernandez according to WisDC..

Randall Melchert

As I posted earlier and was featured on WisOpinion, anyone who spends more than $20 must fill out 4 separate forms, notarize one, submit another depending on when you spend it, etc… $20?

Primary Day today! VOTE!

Filed under: DPI Superintendent, Menomonee Falls — randallmelchert @ 10:37 am

I was #157 at the Menomonee Falls Fire Department on Lilly…

Statewide it’s the DPI Race: Rose Fernandez is who I’m supporting, although I am not opposed to Van Mobley.

Here in the Falls: It’s the Village President Primary. David Phillips, Randy Newman, and Jefferson Davis are running.

There are interesting strategies some people use for voting: Some try to guess who the winner will be and vote for that person. Others try to vote for the underdog. Some just write-in themselves. And as someone who disagreed with a zoning decision told me, they’ll probably just vote for the guy most likely to annoy the rest of the village board.

Now, if you’re a bandwagon voter – ignore the following, but if you’re a fellow political forecaster – add your prediction:

Here’s my predictions:

DPI Race:
Evers: 40%
Van Mobley: 22%
Fernandez: 18%
Price: 8%
Holtz: 5%

Village President:
Newman: 67%
Davis: 23%
Phillips: 12%
