Sign the SaveMyFamilyNow.com Petition:
To President Barack Obama, Majority Leader Harry Reid, Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the Democrat Members of Congress:
The Constitution starts with “WE THE PEOPLE” and it’s time you start remembering that.
American families on a daily basis make hard choices in order to live within their means.
Why can’t Congress and our federal government do the same?
I urge you to work towards balancing the budget.
I urge you to cut our taxes so families can save more and to cut the wasteful spending that is mortgaging the future of generations of Americans and severely limiting their ability to prosper.
Instead of your own re-election, put families in your district and state first.
I am signing this simple: “BALANCE, CUT, SAVE” petition because I believe it is these three things that you should remember when making decisions about new spending, taxes and health care in the weeks ahead.
If you stick to these guiding lights, you can’t go wrong.
Mr. President and members of Congress, I’ve kept it simple for you:
BALANCE, CUT, SAVE.
That’s what should guide you in your decisions in the week’s ahead. My family can’t afford the decisions you are making on my behalf so I am signing this petition to remind you of what is important:
My Family, My Country And My Freedom.
Thank you and God Bless America!
From RecallDoyle:
There will be a protest at the Capitol in Madison on Tuesday! The next step is for the formation of a conference committee to reconcile the two versions of the budget (House and Senate) WE WILL BE THERE!
We will hold a protest Tuesday at noon in the Capitol Rotunda. Any one who can make it for even a hour will be greatly helping. We will provide signs if you need them. The idea is to have a ring of people holding 4×4 foot cardboard signs circling in the rotunda showing the faces of bad actors on the finance committee who have put together this lousy budget. If anyone has a pig face mask please bring it (dollar store may sell these). We want to emphasize what pigs our goverment is filled with.
Additionally we will have the message on signs showing our intent to recall additional Legislators for their breach of trust with the people of Wisconsin. Please call anyone you know who may be able to help. PHYSICAL PRESENCE is the most effective means of communicating with DEAF politicians!
I had the opportunity to speak to a group of homeschoolers as a part of their class on Wisconsin history.
One of the interesting things I was able to share with them is the importance of getting involved. There were maybe 25 people in the room, parents and homeschoolers included. I told them how in the Spring primary, the voter turnout was just 6%. Each of their votes would count for the 16 people who didn’t vote. I asked how many effective votes is that? A sharp kid in the front row had the answer – 400.
“Now, what if each of you told 10 friends to be sure to vote. How many votes could you impact then?”
“4,000!”
Just 25 people, but in a low-voter turnout election like the Spring primary, they could have the impact of 4,000 people.
I also had fun stumping them by asking what other organization besides the Legislature can pass laws affecting the entire state. (Ok, so it’s not the proper term, but I didn’t want to spoil the answer). If you don’t know, just click here…
Even more interesting to some is the very low number of phone calls from different people that it takes to scare state representatives away from voting a certain way that I heard at a seminar early this year.
This was a fun opportunity, and I was able to share many of the same points that I’ve been able to share on the radio last year and this year. I’ll also be speaking to a school group in Beloit, and at the Dog Federation of Wisconsin’s Legislative Day coming up. If you’d like a speaker for your organization – on how to get involved in government, or how to affect your government for good, or to tell about the Wisconsin Tea Party, leave me a comment on the blog or email rmelchert-(at)-gmail-(dot)-com
- Is this a full blown tea party?
- This would probably be a “mini-Tea Party” – because the Joint Finance Committee cancelled the Saturday hearing, and most taxpayers have to work, our Wednesday Morning Tea party will probably not have thousands of people. In reality – this is a tailgate party for the budget hearing. Except we’re not frying brats to celebrate a Brewers win, we’re facing billion$ of new taxe$!
- So what will we do?
- The Joint Finance Committee is having a public hearing inside the Tommy Thompson Center at State Fair Park starting at 10 AM – at the tea party/tailgate you can be informed of what is going.
- What will happen at the hearing? Can I speak?
Format for the Budget Hearings: What You Can Expect (From WFC)
- 1) Plan to arrive between 9 and 9:30 a.m. at the latest. The hearings begin at 10 a.m. At the hearing in Sparta yesterday, 250 people showed up!
2) Registration slips will be available. Get one from one of the staffers. Fill it out according to whether or not you wish to speak and turn it in.
3) When you register, you will be given a number. Speakers will be taken in numerical order. So, arriving earlier helps ensure you will be able to speak earlier.
4) Speakers will be limited to 3 minutes each. The committee clerk will hold up signs indicating remaining time.
5) You can join with others to form a group and go to the microphone that way. (There will be a place for one speaker and maybe more to sit.) If you speak as a group, you are limited to 6 minutes total–used as the group chooses. If you and several others decide after you register that you would like to be a group, that is fine. Just be sure to tell the committee clerk so the numbers of the others will be marked off and called (obviously, typically you would want to use the lowest number among the people in the group).
6) Members of the committee may ask questions after your testimony. Answer honestly if you know the answer; if you don’t know, admit that and offer to find out and get them the information. If you do that, be sure to follow through on your offer.
7) Written testimony is fine, but the committee would prefer that you not read it. We recommend taking written testimony (1 copy for each member plus a few extras–16 committee members + 4 extra=20 copies). This will be collected after you speak. Written testimony gives the committee members something to help them remember who spoke and what was said.
8) Committee members will be in and out all day. There may be times when very few are at the table actually involved in the hearing. That’s just how these go. You, too, can come and go, as long as you are there when your number is called. After you testify, you can stay or leave as your schedule and interest permit.
9) Clapping and cheering will not be permitted. Signs are also not allowed. T-shirts with messages are fine, as are buttons.
10) Wisconsin Eye will be taping the entire hearing, and it is highly likely that members of the media will be at these hearings. Sometimes it’s important to remember this when thinking about what you want to say and how you want to say it!
